Are you a bird lover? Just looking for an easy to care for pet for the kids? Then you’ll have to have a think about which is the best aviary for your home or garden.
We take a look at some things that you’ll need to consider when shopping for an aviary. After all your want your bird friend to be happy and healthy in their little (or big – up to you!) home.
It’s got to be secure
Of course, this is the number one thing to look for when you are shopping for a bird aviary. You don’t want those naughty things escaping! While many people like to have a browse around at second-hand aviaries first, you can’t really be assured a lot of their safety. Rickety doors and unsafe materials can not only let your little fellas escape, but the materials used may be bad for them too. Second hand aviaries may not have a very long life as compared to if you bought one new.

A secure aviary has a totally secure, heavy duty door, and the wiring used around the aviary needs to be quite small and very strong, too. If it’s just chicken wire or some such then you are not going to get very far!
What size?
What sort of birds are you planning on getting? If you’re just after one budgie then you can get away with a smaller cage inside and budgie will be fine. If you’re planning on getting a few birds, or bigger birds, then you’ll need to get a decent size cage for your yard. You should also have a think about whether you’re going to add friends to them down the track. While a smaller cage might suffice for now, you might find things getting a little small if you add five friends or so.
Style?
You might also like to think about style for your aviary. While most people are happy with just a rectangular caged aviary, with some cute features inside, if you’re looking to make your aviary a focal point in your backyard then perhaps you might like to get one custom made – perhaps in a cool large scale bird cage style? The styling of your aviary is really about whether form or function is more important to you.
