Tips for shed shopping in Sydney

How to choose the right garden shed in Sydney. Having a shed is the perfect way to secure your tools, add extra storage and clear up some space. When it comes to purchasing a garden shed in Sydney, you need one that suits your needs the best. Today we are spoilt for choices and options, but here are some things you should consider.

* Shed styles and types – when you are looking for a shed for your garden, you want it to fit in with the natural environment. A small garden shed in green or brown is a good option and is perfect for storing tools and equipment. If you want something with more of a workspace, with lots of benches and storage for your tools, an alluminum shed gives you the security and safety you need.

* Location – there are a few things you should consider when choosing a location for your shed. You want to place it where you have easy access to it. The environment will also play a part, it’s a good idea not to place your shed too close to trees, you don’t want roots breaking through the floor, or branches falling through the roof. Also try and avoid areas where water pools in the yard, this can cause problems such as rust, mould or even rising damp. Try and look for a spot with some partial shade from the summer sun. Too much direct heat on walls during in summer can cause a build up of heat that you may find hard to work in.

* Foundations – the foundation for your shed is important. A gravel base is a simple and cost-effective choice. Make sure when you have the shed in place you have it anchored down securely and make sure your drainage is okay or everything in the shed may get wet. Using pavers is a good base for a shed that won’t be holding too much weight, to prevent the shed sinking over time you can add a layer of crushed rock underneath the sand to improve the stability. A concrete slab foundation is the strongest and most durable way to secure a shed to the ground, however it is more expensive and takes longer to lay.

* Accessories – once your shed is up, it’s time to organise it, an organised shed lets you know where everything is, and it can protect your tools and things. A good way to use shed space is to hang things on the wall, or from the roof to help give you some space and keep things off the floor.

* Council Permission – when deciding on the location and size of your shed you’ll need to know if any local council restrictions may be impacted. Generally, small garden sheds are exempt from council regulations if erected in your backyard, but it’s always best to check.

  • I just want to advise you of the terrific service one of your shed builders provided to us when last week he built the shed we ordered through your Penrith office. Dave and his young helper provided first class workmanship, he was very polite, and the clean up was a pleasure compared to most other tradesmen. We are soon going to order a further shed via Penrith and I have no hesitation in recommending your products. Thank you Dave, and thank you to Col Western Sheds.
